Chapter 2 of 3
Clean Oceans
Yesterday,
by midnight,
the world’s plastic factories had manufactured 876,000 tonnes of new plastic material, in a single day. That's the same weight as 2,500 jumbo jets, of new plastic, made every day...

...But is this a problem?
Well, plastic itself is an amazing product. Without it our lives would be very different...
Health Care
Personal Protective equipment (PPE) made from plastic has saved millions of lives both during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in daily medical life.

Packaging
Plastic packaging helps protect and preserve goods, while reducing weight in transportation, which saves fuel and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
Products
The durability of plastic products means it is resistant to corrosion, impact, UV rays and many other environmental factors and it doesn't have to be replaced as often as other materials.
What's the problem?
Plastic Waste
Of the 320 million tonnes of plastic produced every year, 70% is discarded within the same year. Only 8% of this is ever recycled, meaning 203 million tonnes of plastic ends up in landfill, incineration or our oceans, every year.
This plastic waste cannot be recycled with today's technologies and processes.
And plastic waste is deadly...
-
There are as many as 51 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean. That's 51 trillion deadly hazards that marine animals need to avoid.
-
A recent study found that microplastics have been found in the placenta of unborn babies, making the theme of our 2022 advert.
-
Two-thirds of all seabirds species are affected by plastic pollution. In a recent study, 98% of albatrosses had ingested plastic, and 40% of their chicks died as they had been fed plastic by their parents.
The world must find a way to reduce its plastic waste, but...

The 7 types of plastic...
Clean Planet ecoPlants recycle non-recyclable plastic-waste

#1 - PET
Soft drink bottles, fruit juice containers, cooking oil bottles, water bottles.
Widely recycled by traditional recycling

CPE ecoPlants could accept but choose not to as alternatives exist

#2 - HDPE
Milk jugs, cleaning agents, shampoo bottles, films, bleaching agents.
Not widely recycled by all traditional services

CPE ecoPlant accept & recycle all types of HDPE
#3 - PVC
Electrical appliances, thermal insulation, banners, buoyancy aids, some toys.
Not widely recycled by all traditional services

CPE ecoPlants could accept but we choose not to in early plants

#4 - LDPE
Most films, shopping bags, highly-resistant sacks and most wrappings.
Not widely recycled by all traditional services

CPE ecoPlant accept & recycle all types of LDPE
#5 - PP
Bottle tops, biscuit wrappers, containers, plant pots, drinking straws, hinged lunch boxes.
Not widely recycled by all traditional services

CPE ecoPlant accept & recycle all types of PP

#6 - PS
Egg & food boxes, fast food trays, disposable cups, packaging foam & CD cases
Not widely recycled by all traditional services

CPE ecoPlant accept & recycle all types of PS

#7 - The Rest
Nylon, fiber textiles, polycarbonate (cups, bottles) & components
Not widely recycled by all traditional services

CPE ecoPlant accept & recycle almost all types of Grade #7
CONTAMINANTS
Dirt, Water, Food-Waste, Mould and more
Traditional recycling requires plastics to be 99.99% pure/clean

15% levels of contamination
Almost any plastic
A CPE ecoPlant can process and recycle almost any plastic.

By processing over 20,000 metric tonnes a year of plastic, we are stopping this waste from entering our environment and oceans. There are also significant CO2e savings made from avoiding this plastic entering incineration plants.
